Canada Visitor Visa Processing Time from Pakistan (2026): How to Read IRCC's Tool

By Sky Raah Visa Team7 min read
Canada Visa Processing Time: From Pakistan · reading IRCC times, over a photo of a Canadian landscape

Quick answer

IRCC publishes Canada visitor visa processing times in an online tool that it updates weekly. On its 14 October 2026 update, the time for applications from Pakistan was 65 days. That covers the period from submitting a complete application, including biometrics, to IRCC's decision. Sending your passport for the visa afterwards adds more time. The figure is an estimate, not a maximum.

How long does a Canada visit visa take from Pakistan?

If you are planning a trip to see family in Toronto or a holiday in Vancouver, the first question is usually timing. The honest answer for Canada visit visa processing time from Pakistan is that it moves every week, and the only reliable number is the one Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) publishes on the day you check.

On IRCC's update of 14 October 2026, its processing-times tool showed 65 days for a visitor visa (also called a Temporary Resident Visa, or TRV) applied for from Pakistan. For the Super Visa for parents and grandparents, it showed 105 days. By the time you read this, both figures will probably have changed.

This guide explains how to read the tool, what the number does and does not include, how biometrics at VFS Global fit in, and what tends to slow a Pakistani file down. For the full application process and document list, see our Canada visit visa from Pakistan guide.

How do you read IRCC's processing-time tool?

The tool lives on canada.ca and takes about a minute to use:

  1. Open the Check processing times page.
  2. Choose the temporary residence category, then the visitor visa option for applications made from outside Canada.
  3. Select Pakistan as the country you are applying from.
  4. Read the figure and the "last updated" date shown with it.

IRCC says the times are updated weekly. Always note the date next to the figure, because a number from a forum post or a WhatsApp group may be weeks old.

What the number measures

According to IRCC, processing "starts the day we receive your complete application and ends when we make a decision." For an online application, the clock starts when you submit, with all fees paid. The page also says the estimate includes the time it takes to give your biometrics.

IRCC's help centre explains that these "backward-looking" times are based on how long it took to process 80% of complete applications in the recent past. So the figure describes most recent applicants, not all of them. One in five took longer.

What the number does not tell you

  • It is not a promise. IRCC states the times are estimates and "not a maximum or a guarantee."
  • It stops at the decision. If you are approved, you still need to send your passport so the visa can be placed in it. IRCC's after-you-apply page says you cannot travel until that is done.
  • It does not count your preparation time. Gathering bank statements, tax records and a host's documents happens before the clock starts.
  • It is not about your file. It reflects recent applications from Pakistan in general. Your own case can be quicker or slower.

What happens between applying and getting the visa?

Here is the typical sequence for a Pakistani applicant, and who controls the time at each stage.

Stage What happens Who controls the time
Prepare the file Forms, bank statements, tax returns, ties, invitation You
Submit online Application and fees paid in your IRCC account You
Biometric instruction letter IRCC asks for fingerprints and photo IRCC
Biometrics at VFS Appointment in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi You (within 30 days)
Review Officer assesses the file; may ask for more IRCC
Extra steps (sometimes) Documents, interview or medical exam IRCC and you
Decision Approval or refusal in your account IRCC
Passport request Passport sent so the visa can be printed You, then IRCC

The published figure covers roughly the middle of this table, from "Submit online" to "Decision". The first and last rows sit outside it, so plan for them separately.

How do biometrics at VFS affect the timeline?

Most Pakistani applicants must give fingerprints and a photo. IRCC's list of visa application centres shows three centres in Pakistan, all run by VFS Global: Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

Key rules, as of October 2026:

  • Deadline: IRCC's visitor visa instructions say you have 30 days from the date on the biometric instruction letter (BIL) to give biometrics.
  • Fee: pay the biometrics fee when you apply. IRCC warns that paying later can cause delays.
  • Reuse: IRCC's biometrics page says biometrics are valid for 10 years. If yours are still valid, they are linked to the new application. A visa cannot be issued beyond the date your biometrics expire.
  • Exemptions: children under 14 and applicants over 79 do not need to give biometrics.

Because the published time includes biometrics, every week you wait for an appointment comes straight out of your own timeline. In the files we handle, the simplest way to save time is to book the VFS slot the day the letter arrives, at whichever of the three centres has the earliest date.

What slows down a Canadian visitor visa application?

IRCC says processing can take longer if an application is incomplete, complex or needs security checks. In practice, these are the delays we see most often for Pakistani applicants:

  1. Missing documents. A file without a host's status proof, tax records or a clear purpose often triggers a request for more documents. Each request adds weeks.
  2. Late biometrics. Waiting until day 29 of the 30-day window makes your file slower than the published figure.
  3. Unread messages. Requests appear in your IRCC account. Families often miss them because the account was opened by a relative or an agent.
  4. Interviews and medical exams. IRCC may ask you to attend an interview or take a medical exam. Both add time and are not in your control.
  5. Background checks. Some files need extra screening. IRCC does not say how long this takes.
  6. Wrong passport. IRCC asks you to submit the same passport you used in the application. Renewing your passport mid-process causes problems.
  7. Peak seasons. Summer and the December holidays are popular for family visits, so applications rise. The weekly figure usually reflects this, which is why checking it close to the date matters.

Can you make IRCC process your application faster?

Not directly. The processing-times page says plainly that calling IRCC will not make your application faster, and there is no paid priority service for visitor visas.

What you can do:

  • Submit a complete application with every fee paid on the day you apply.
  • Book biometrics immediately.
  • Check your IRCC account every few days and reply to any request quickly.
  • Keep your passport valid well beyond your trip, so it does not limit the visa or force a renewal.

IRCC also warns, on its refusal help page, that hiring a representative does not increase your chances of approval. Be wary of anyone offering a "fast track".

How early should you apply for a Canada visit visa?

There is no official "apply X weeks before" rule for visitor visas. A practical way to plan:

  1. Check the current figure on IRCC's tool for Pakistan.
  2. Add time for preparing documents before you submit.
  3. Add time for the passport request and the visa being printed after approval.
  4. Add a buffer in case IRCC asks for more documents.

For a family event such as a wedding or a graduation, start several months ahead and do not buy non-refundable tickets until the visa is in your passport. If you have been refused before, read our Canada visa refusal reasons guide before applying again. A second refusal on the same evidence wastes both time and fees.

What does a Canada visitor visa cost from Pakistan?

Government fees from IRCC's fee list, as of October 2026:

Fee Amount (CAD)
Visitor visa, per person $100
Visitor visa, family of 5 or more applying together $500 maximum
Biometrics, per person $85
Biometrics, family of 2 or more applying together $170 maximum

The Super Visa uses the same visa fee. VFS Global may charge its own service charges at the centre, so check the VFS Pakistan website when you book.

Common mistakes that cost Pakistani applicants time

  • Relying on an old figure from social media instead of the dated number on IRCC's tool.
  • Treating the figure as a maximum. It describes most applications, not every one.
  • Booking flights before the passport comes back. The decision is not the end of the process.
  • Leaving biometrics late because the letter landed in a spam folder.
  • Sending an incomplete host package. If you are visiting family, include your host's status and income evidence from the start.
  • Applying again while the first application is still pending, which can confuse the record.

Frequently asked questions

Does the IRCC processing time include my biometrics appointment?

Yes. IRCC's processing-time page says the estimate includes the time it takes to give your biometrics. A late biometrics appointment therefore makes your own application slower than the published figure. Book your VFS appointment as soon as the biometric instruction letter arrives.

Why is my application taking longer than the time IRCC shows?

The figure is an estimate based on how long most recent applications took, and IRCC says it is not a maximum or a guarantee. Files take longer when they are incomplete, when the officer asks for more documents, an interview or a medical exam, or when extra security checks are needed. If you are well past the published time, check your IRCC account for unread messages first.

Will calling IRCC or hiring a consultant make my file faster?

No. IRCC states that calling will not get your application processed faster, and a representative has no access to a faster queue. What you can control is sending a complete application with fees paid, giving biometrics quickly and answering any request without delay.

Is the Super Visa processing time the same as the visitor visa?

No. IRCC lists them separately. On the 14 October 2026 update, the Super Visa time for applications from Pakistan was 105 days, against 65 days for a standard visitor visa. The Super Visa also needs an immigration medical exam and approved insurance, which take time to arrange before you apply.

How long do I have to give biometrics after applying?

IRCC's visitor visa instructions say you have 30 days from the date on your biometric instruction letter. Biometrics you gave in the last 10 years are normally reused, but IRCC cannot issue a visa that runs past the expiry date of those biometrics. Children under 14 and applicants over 79 are exempt.
